Two future Fords have got Europe’s media buzzing this week. The all-new Edge Concept, unveiled in LA, is one. The other, of course, is the next generation Mustang which will be unveiled globally on December 5th…
Autobild Online (Germany) describes Ford Edge Concept as “modern” and elegant”, adding: “Ford is equipping the Edge with everything possible in terms of assistances and other bells and whistles. One example is a fully automatic parking assistance system. Upon the push of a button or via remote control, it can manoeuver the car into parking spots without needing a person at the wheel. Ford’s pre-collision assistant uses similar sensors and vehicle control systems. The project, which is still under development, warns the driver when pedestrians, as well as static or moving objects or other obstacles are in one’s lane and automatically takes evasive action. Another innovative technology in the Ford Edge Concept is its adaptive steering system. All of Ford’s other current driver assistances are also available for the Edge (blind spot monitoring system, a collision warning system, adaptive cruise control) as well as hill climb assistance and curtain airbags. The engine lineup consists of EcoBoost variants (1.6 and 2.0-liter versions) and the mature TDCi diesels. The interior boasts a eleven-inch touchscreen and Ford’s voice-controlled Sync multimedia connectivity system.”
Infomotori.com (Italy) says Edge Concept is “majestic-looking”. It adds: “It has sleek, sporty lines and uses the new generation of Active Grille Shutter to optimize airflow and aerodynamics. High-tech features are harmoniously integrated into the elegant interior. The instrument panel, doors and steering wheel are covered in hand-stitched Nubuck leather. The futuristic-looking center console houses a 10-inch display for Ford SYNC with MyFord Touch. The Edge offers a glimpse of technology to be found in future Fords, including Fully Assisted Parking Aid, Obstacle Avoidance and adaptive power steering.”
Corrieredellosport.it (Italy) also gives Edge Concept a big thumbs up: “It wants to be seen as a concept car, but it’s actually much more. Unveiled at the LA Auto Show, the Edge Concept prefigures the design and features of Ford’s future global SUV. Popular in the United States and markets around the world, the Edge will be Ford’s first large SUV in Europe and one of the 25 world cars that the brand will bring to our region by 2017. With the Edge, Kuga and EcoSport, Ford will offer a line-up of fresh, diverse and versatile SUVs. The Edge Concept has an imposing exterior, high-tech features and efficient engines. In Europe, where 70% of S-MAX customers choose the highest trim level, the Edge will meet the growing demand for larger, more premium SUVs that are elegant, technologically advanced and fun to drive.”
Motor.es (Spain) is counting the days to the launch of new Mustang. The site reports: “Mark this date on your calendar! On Dec. 5, Ford will lift the curtain on the new Mustang. It will be the first Mustang generation to be sold in Europe, where its launch is long-awaited. We’ve seen fairly realistic computer-generated images of the model’s design, but we’re sure that Ford will still manage to surprise us… The new Mustang will be the sixth generation of this American icon, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. It will introduce a new global design and four-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engines. Will it become Europe’s new “coupe for the people”?
Auto Express Online (UK) also trumpets the launch date: “Four continents and six cities will play host to the Mustang's unveiling, with Ford of Europe revealing the new model in Barcelona with a special ‘Go Further’ event. Various other new models and technologies will also be showcased, which will shape the future of Ford in Europe, including the new EcoSport. The sixth-generation Mustang will celebrate 50 years of the iconic model and as part of the countdown until the cars unveiling, Ford's official Facebook and Instagram pages will pay tribute to model.”
