Ford in the Press – Week 7

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

Media buzz is building over the imminent arrival of new Fiesta ST with non-automotive and automotive publications eager to get their hands on this fastest Fiesta yet. It’s also been a great week for the all-new Tourneo Custom people mover…

Italy’s Automobilismo.it is super excited about new Fiesta ST. It reports: “Ford has begun producing the new Fiesta ST, the fastest and most brilliant Fiesta ever. Here are four things you should know:  The Fiesta ST reaches a top speed of 220km/h and accelerates from 0-100km/h in only 6.9 seconds. The ST is powered by a 1.6 EcoBoost engine delivering 182PS and 240Nm of torque. It has advanced Torque Vectoring Control and three ESP modes, and its chassis, steering and brakes were modified. The Fiesta ST expresses its sporty personality with a honeycomb grille, rear diffuser and new Recaro sport seats.
The new version is also the most efficient Fiesta ST ever, boasting fuel consumption of 5.9l / 100km and CO2 emissions of 138g/km.”

Auto Zeitung Online (Germany) announces: “The most powerful (production) version of the Ford Fiesta will hit dealership showrooms in March. The automaker recently also announced the price of the sporty version.  Ford is asking at least 19,990 euros for the new Fiesta ST, which is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that generates 182PS. Its average consumption is 5.9 liters per 100km (according to EU standards) and its emits 138g/km of CO2 on average. The three-door model accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds and its top speed is 220km/h. Compared with the conventional version, the Fiesta ST comes with a sports suspension and is 15mm lower to the ground.”

UK Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond writes in the Daily Mirror: “The production line building Ford’s Fiesta ST in Cologne, Germany, has been started. Like its bigger brother the Focus ST. the Fiesta ST is a bit of a bargain, with prices starting at £16,995. You even get the Recaro bucket seats as standard. We’ll put one through its paces as soon as we can grab the keys.”

Just-auto.com (Germany/UK) compares Fiesta ST to previous fast Ford hatches: “The new high-performance Fiesta ST follows iconic Fiesta models including the XR2, XR2i, RS1800, RS Turbo and first generation ST; and is equipped with Ford's turbocharged Twin-independent Variable Camshaft Timing EcoBoost engine to achieve faster acceleration and a higher top speed than the 2002 Ford Focus ST170. The second-generation Fiesta ST has also been confirmed for launch in North America and Asia Pacific.”

Auto Express (UK) is full of praise for all-new Tourneo Custom, reporting: “The Tourneo offers masses of space, yet doesn’t miss out on modern technology. There’s Ford’s latest kit, such as torque vectoring, which makes the driving experience rather good, too. It’s not the most handsome vehicle, but class-leading practicality, fuel efficiency and value for money mean it’s a brilliant people carrier.”

Auto Car (UK) is equally impressed: “If you needed proof that ‘White Van Man’ is an outmoded concept, the new, £33,000 Ford Tourneo Custom 300 is it. Sure, it’s a version of the all-new Ford Transit, easily Britain’s favourite van (and definitely available in white) but it’s also the ultimate example of how luxuriously specified these vehicles can be. And it shows how impressive they are to drive….The Tourneo Custom is never going to be a substitute for a car (although those with nine-head families may demur). But if you need to carry lots people or lots of stuff you’ll find the latest Ford carry-all amazingly capable.”
