BRENTWOOD, England - Just weeks after the first vehicles were delivered to customers, Ford Transit has been named “Van of the Year” by Auto Express for the second year in a row – one of two awards for Ford.
Judges at the popular magazine and website also placed the Ford Fiesta number one in the “Best Supermini” category – an honour the UK’s best-selling new car has won five times in the past six years.
The Transit’s win makes it two out of two for Ford’s commercial vehicle top seller, as the title was first awarded by Auto Express to the smaller Ford Transit Custom last year.
Steve Fowler, Auto Express editor-in-chief, said: “Ford really has thrown absolutely everything at it and come up with one of the best vans we’ve ever seen. The numbers stack up so well for businesses, while it’s easier than ever to load and more enjoyable to drive.”
The Ford Transit combines best-in-class cost of ownership with unbeatable load-carrying capability for commercial customers, and it marks the completion of an unprecedented 24-month renewal of Ford’s entire European CV range. Available with various wheelbases, cab-styles and roof-heights, Ford Transit sells alongside the smaller Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Transit Courier vans.
The Ford Fiesta’s domination of the Auto Express “Best Supermini” category in recent years mirrors its UK sales performance. More than 70,000 have found homes already this year, almost double the number of its nearest rival. The Fiesta is the UK’s best selling car of 2014, with the Ford Focus second.
Steve Fowler said: “The Fiesta still sits at the top of the sales charts and at the top of our awards as Best Supermini. Its brilliant blend of stylish looks, impressive efficiency, affordable costs, space and quality are probably enough. But being so good to drive really puts it head and shoulders above rivals.”
Ford vehicles also received two “Commended” mentions, for the Ford Fiesta ST in the Hot Hatch category and the Ford Ranger 2.2 TDCi XLT in the Pick-up class.
There was also recognition for Stephen Odell, president of Ford of Europe, Middle East and Africa, who was welcomed into the Auto Express Hall of Fame, recognising his impact on the industry.
