MOSCOW– Ford Sollers has received a special award inscribed: “For success in the development of the Russian market.” The award was announced at the ‘Best Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Russia’ awards ceremony in Moscow, which took place earlier this week at the COMTRANS 2013 exhibition.
The award was one of five “Best Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Russia” awards presented annually by a jury of specialist automotive media.
“It’s a great honour for us to win such a prestigious award. This is the evidence showing that our contribution to the development of the automotive field in Russia is really of great importance,” said Mark Simpson, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford Sollers.
“In 2013, Ford Sollers is continuing to strengthen its position in the commercial vehicle segment,” he added. “We have extended our local production, and thanks to that we can offer our Russian customers a wide range of Ford light commercial vehicles”.
“We are proud of the fact that Transit has retained class leadership among the foreign commercial vehicle brands in Russia for the past two years.”
Тransit production started in Russia at the Ford Sollers plant in Elabuga, in 2012.
“This year we launched another model on the Russian market – the Tourneo Custom, which is also produced in Tatarstan,” said Simpson. “Another new vehicle is awaiting our Russian customers in 2014 – the Transit Connect, which is displayed at the 12th International Exhibition of Commercial Vehicles in Moscow. The new Transit Connect will be an important part of the Russian Transit commercial vehicle range.”
More than 76,000 Ford commercial vehicles (Transit, Connect, Ranger) have been sold in Russia since 1999, more than 53,000 of them being Transits. YTD August 2013 sales for Transit in Russia topped 7,000 units, 20 per cent more than the same period last year.
At this year’s COMTRANS exhibition, Ford Sollers is presenting the current Ford commercial vehicles lineup on its stand: the Transit Connect, Tourneo Custom, Ranger and a wide range of Transit models, including a minibus taxi and an ambulance.
The Ford brand has received the Best Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Russia award twice: the Transit was the winner in the Best Foreign Van category in 2001 and the Transit Connect was awarded the same prize in 2005.
The Ford Sollers joint venture in Russia currently produces eight models. Focus and Mondeo are built at the Ford Sollers plant in Vsevolozhsk, while Transit, Tourneo Custom, Explorer, Kuga, S-MAX and Galaxy are built at the Ford Sollers plant in Elabuga.
