DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Ford in Malaysia celebrated three more award wins at this week’s Autoworld 2012 Car of the Year awards, two for the segment-defining all-new Ford Ranger and one for the class-leading all-new Ford Focus.

The Focus beat four competitors to win Best Compact Passenger Car, while the Ranger defeated two competitors to win Best Pick-Up Truck.

Additionally, the Ranger edged out four other contenders to win Autoworld’s Members’ Choice Award, chosen entirely by Autoworld’s online community members. The Ranger’s win is particularly notable as it beat the competition by a more than 50 percent voting margin.

These awards capped off a stellar year for Ford Malaysia, which earned an impressive 10 awards for 2012.

The all-new Ford Ranger was named New Straits Times-Maybank’s Overall Car of the Year and Pickup Truck of the Year, Autocar ASEAN’s Pickup Truck of the Year and Asian Auto Allianz Auto Industry’s Best Value for Money Pickup Truck.

Meanwhile, the all-new Ford Focus was awarded New Straits Times-Maybank’s Family Car of the Year, Autocar ASEAN’s Midsize Sedan/Hatchback of the Year and was STUFF’s Readers’ Choice Awards’ runner-up for Sedan of the Year.

“We are deeply gratified by these awards and the warm reception we have received from the Malaysian market. These accolades prove that the One Ford plan is working around the globe and in Malaysia, as we bring consumers attractive, fuel-efficient and performance-centric vehicles,” said David Westerman, regional manager, Asia Pacific, Ford Export & Growth Operations.

“The all-new Ford Ranger’s wins underscores how this vehicle has redefined the market with its multi-class appeal as both a hard-working, rugged truck and a family-friendly passenger vehicle,” added Westerman.

The Ranger has earned much recognition in the Malaysia market on account of its crossover appeal as both a family vehicle and workhorse. It made history as the first pickup truck to win the New Straits Times-Maybank’s Overall Car of the Year award.
