Ford Philippines Holds ‘Tough’ Media Drive to Showcase All-New Ranger Wildtrak’s Class-Leading Capabilities

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

MANILA, Philippines — Ford Philippines has officially announced that the range-topping all-new Ford Ranger Wildtrak will be launched at the coming 2013 Manila International Auto Show this April. And last week, eight members of the media were able to experience the Wildtrak first-hand during an on- and off-road drive experience.

Teams of automotive and consumer media participated in the two-day event to northern Luzon - the largest island in the Philippines - using the all-new 2.2L Ranger Wildtrak 4X4 MT and top-of-the-line 3.2L Ranger Wildtrak 4X4 AT units.

The journalists were Iñigo Roces of Manila Bulletin, Kap Aguila of Philippine Star, Brian Afuang of Manila Times, Vernon Sarne of Top Gear, Eric Tipan of C! Magazine, Chris Kho of Kotse.com, Vince Pornelos of AutoIndustriya and Lamar Roque of Men’s Health magazine.
The three-part drive started off with a quick and fast-paced run to San Fernando, Pampanga and continued on to a challenging off-road experience in the lahar beds in Porac, Pampanga and Mt. Pinatubo, and finally, a controlled fuel efficiency drive back to Manila the following day.
The 2.2L Ranger Wildtrak manual transmission, driven by Iñigo Roces and Vince Pornelos garnered the highest fuel efficiency of 15.21 Km/L, followed closely by the 3.2L Ranger Wildtrak automatic transmission, driven by Chris Kho and Kap Aguila, with an impressive 14.50 Km/L reading.
The all-new Ranger Wildtrak comes with a choice of two common-rail Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engines and class-exclusive six-speed transmissions that serve up even more power and torque.

Equipped with the new Duratorq TDCi 3.2L VG Turbo, the 3.2L Wildtrak 4x4 has a substantial 470 Nm of torque and power rated at 200 PS. The fuel consumption of this five-cylinder diesel engine in a combined cycle is among the leaders in its class, with 9.6 L/100 km (10.4 km/L). For those who prefer an engine with a smaller displacement, the Duratorq TDCi 2.2L VG Turbo delivers peak torque output of 375 Nm and power output of 150 PS.

"Whether it's the urban jungle mild or the weekend off-road wild, the all new Ford Ranger Wildtrak has redefined what you can expect from a showroom stock 4x4 truck," said Vince Pornelos, Associate Editor of AutoIndustriya.

The media participants also had a mini online photo competition, each submitting five photo entries that best illustrated the ‘Tough but Fun’ character of the Ranger Wildtrak. The photo and album with the most number of likes posted on the Ford Philippines Facebook site bagged a special Ford-Coleman Survival Gear Kit – which went to Iñigo S. Roces.

“The Ranger Wildtrak Tough Fun Run not only demonstrated the exceptional abilities of a showroom stock Wildtrak, but also how effortlessly easy it makes many of the obstacles. This allows the driver to focus more on exploring the world and having fun without worrying about the technicalities of driving through various conditions,” said Roces.

The addition of the Wildtrak will expand the all-new Ford Ranger lineup in the Philippines to six highly-competitive models featuring an unmatched combination of power and safety, fuel efficiency, comfort and capability in its segment.

“We’re thrilled to be further expanding the lineup of our all-new Ranger with the introduction of the range-topping Wildtrak, and providing even more customer choice for this class-defining pickup truck in the Philippines,” said Randy Krieger, president, Ford Philippines.
