 Ford Motorsport Update

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

Testing Times for Ford World Rally Team

Ford World Rally Team has been ramping up preparations for the second half of the season with a four day tarmac test at Circuit des Ecuyeres in Fary, France.

Petter Solberg and Jar-Matti Latvala spent two days each driving the Fiesta RS WRC in a variety of conditions ranging from heavy rain to brilliant sunshine.

“The time spent at the circuit was really useful,” said Solberg. “We’ve got three asphalt events coming up soon and we were able to make a lot of progress understanding the car better on tarmac. We’ve made a big step forward.”

Solberg’s next outing sealed surface will be the ADAC Rally Deutschland. The event, round nine of the FIA World Rally Championship, gets underway in Trier on Thursday 23 August.

Fiesta Clinches Maiden IRC Victory

Ford’s Fiesta Regional Rally Car (RRC) has claimed its first victory in the Intercontinental Rally Championship (IRC), in the hands of Italian driver Giandomenico Basso.

Basso won Rally San Marino in his Fiesta RRC. It was his fifth victory on the event which forms part of the Eurosport supported IRC series.

“It was my first time with the Ford Fiesta RRC on gravel and I had the best feeling ever,” said Basso. “I tried to use the Fiesta RRC as best as I could from the beginning. By the end I found this car the easiest car I have ever driven. I could do things that had been much more difficult for me in the past and could get the most from my driving potential. I love it!”

A variant of the Ford Fiesta RS WRC, the Fiesta RRC shares the same DNA as its World Rally Car (WRC) counterpart, but features a 30 mm engine restrictor and aerodynamic modifications to comply with regional regulations.

Tandy Claims Hat-Trick at Spa
Nick Tandy returned to his Formula Ford roots for a fun weekend in the EuroCup at Spa-Francorchamps and clinched a hat-trick of victories and with them the Spa EuroCup Champion’s crown.

However, none of the races was straightforward. The first was abandoned after only three laps due to a serious accident; the second was cut slightly short by another crash, and in the third Tandy and his JTR EcoBoost Mygale were made to work very hard for their win by the talented young Formula Ford regulars.

Tandy loved every minute of his successful weekend: “I have really enjoyed racing the EcoBoost at Spa. It’s still a driver’s car and yet it has all the latest technology and a really strong engine, and it’s still great racing - that’s the thing. And it’s a whole lot of fun around here.”
