Maiden Win for Ford’s Fiesta R1
Ford’s Fiesta R1 achieved a memorable maiden win on the Pirelli International Rally in northern England. Nineteen year-old Steve Røkland and co-driver Kim Hjalmarsen steered the 1,600cc car to an impressive victory in the Junior Series Class.
The Pirelli International Rally is the third round of the British Rally Championship and Røkland claimed the top step of the podium in the BRC Junior series. It was the ever competitive win for Ford’s latest R1 specification Fiesta, which features standard engine and transmission components to comply with international R1 regulations.
Fiesta RRC Triumphs on Asphalt
Giandomenico Basso claimed the first asphalt win for the Ford Fiesta Regional Rally Car (RRC) in the Mille Miglia Rally in the Brescia region of Italy. It was his fourth triumph in the event, round two of the 2012 Italian Rally Championship.
Eight special stage victories were enough to secure two-time European Champion Basso the laurels by 1min 18sec on his debut in the new Fiesta, a detuned version of the Fiesta RS World Rally Car and run by the A-Style team.
