NEW DELHI, India
– Ford India started the New Year with its best monthly sales performance ever, with 10,026 units sold in the first month of 2011, a more than four-fold increase compared to the same period last year. The company reached a new milestone, with sales of more than 10,000 units in a single month, surpassing its previous high-mark of 9,478 in March 2010.
Sales of the multi-award-winning Ford Figo also hit an all-time new monthly high, with more than 8,600 units sold in January. This marks the best monthly sales performance for the Figo since its launch in March 2010.
According to Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India, the record-breaking sales are a signal of more great things to come from the company in 2011.
“We’ve begun 2011 with record-setting January sales. 2010 was a landmark year for us, with Ford nearly tripling its annual sales volume. And now we have carried the momentum of last year's terrific performance into the new year by crossing the 10,000-unit sales mark,” Boneham said. “We are constantly fine-tuning our performance for maximum growth, and this is just the beginning of what I anticipate will be an incredible year for the company.”
In 2010, Ford India sold 83,887 vehicles, an impressive year-on-year increase of more than 184 percent. The company’s growth has been largely driven by the infectious popularity of the award-winning Figo. Ford India has sold more than 68,000 units of the best-selling compact since its launch in March 2010. Clinching 20 Indian auto industry awards, Figo has won more honours than any other car in Indian automotive history.
“It’s extremely gratifying to see Figo resonating with customers as a great value for the money vehicle,” Boneham added. “It is also heartening to see Figo winning so many prestigious awards, more than any other car in Indian automotive history.”
One of India’s best-selling vehicles, the Figo has consolidated Ford’s position as a major force in the Indian automotive sector.
Ford Figo was voted Indian Car of the Year 2011 by a jury panel of leading automotive magazine editors. The compact car also won four 'Car of the Year' awards from Bloomberg UTV-Autocar India, ET ZigWheels, Motorbeam.com and Team-BHP.com respectively. Various other media organisations honoured Figo with Small Car of the Year, Compact Car of the Year, Design of the Year, Viewers' Choice and Readers’ Choice awards. Ford India was also named Manufacturer of the Year by Bloomberg UTV-Autocar India and Motor Vikatan magazine.
To ensure world-class customer service, Ford India has been expanding its sales and service network across the country. The company's dealer network has increased to more than 170 outlets in more than 100 cities in India.
