 Ford Goes Green at Nampo

DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

PRETORIA, South AfricaFord is going green at the largest agricultural show in the southern hemisphere, Nampo.

“Nampo attracts thousands of visitors and has become a significant event on Ford’s calendar,” says Gavin Golightly, Ford Marketing Manager. “The theme of this year’s show is ‘Conserve tomorrow, act today’, and we will therefore be looking to showcase and communicate with customers on our own green initiatives.”

Ford will display a range of passenger and commercial vehicles. On the passenger car stand, show-goers will be able to look at the Fiesta 1.6 Titanium as well as the Car of the Year finalist, the Focus 2.0 TDCi Trend Powershift Sedan, lauded for its impressive array of features, green technology and 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

The Focus features innovative technologies that are designed to be kinder on the environment, for example Ford’s highly efficient 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission. It cleverly selects the appropriate gear at precisely the right moment ensuring optimal performance and efficiency and helps deliver significant reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, compared to traditional automatics it produces savings of between 4 to 12 percent, while also providing a more responsive and refined driving experience.

To try and encourage motorists to drive more efficiently, Ford offers an EcoMode feature on the Focus and Fiesta. This driver-friendly device analyses how the vehicle is being driven and gives the driver tips on how to make each litre of fuel last longer. With the rise in increased fuel costs, EcoMode will assist people on becoming more aware of how their driving style can influence fuel use.

Customers will be able to find out more about these exciting and innovative features by visiting the Ford stand at this year’s show.

Ford will also reveal images of the new Focus ST that will be coming to South Africa. The much anticipated Focus ST will feature a high performance 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine, capable of delivering impressive fuel economy despite its racing credentials.

“As we continue to introduce exciting new green features such as PowerShift technology and EcoBoost engines into the Ford line-up, the opportunity to communicate our focus on green opportunities is increasingly important and Nampo is the perfect platform to showcase these innovations,” said Golightly.

The all-new Ford Ranger is sure to be a popular attraction at the show. The eye-catching Wildtrak will do duty as the official service vehicle for the 2012 Nampo show, while a selection of Ranger models displayed in all-three body configurations – Single Cab, Super Cab and Double Cab – will on show. The Ranger made motoring history by becoming the first ever pick-up to achieve a maximum 5 Star rating under the Euro NCAP crash test protocol, a feat sure to generate considerable interest from potential buyers.

Nampo is taking place at Nampo Park in the Free State until Friday.
