MELBOURNE, Australia — The Ford Geelong Community Affairs Committee (GCAC) kicked off their 2013 calendar of events with the Ford Regatta at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club(RGYC).
The event, in its fourth year in the current format, is part of the twilight sailing competition at the RGYC, which allows Ford employees, family members and guests to take part in the fun night out on Corio Bay in a relaxed atmosphere.
The weather gods managed to hold off on the light rain till just near the finish, but a lack of regular breeze presented challenges for many boats as they attempted to navigate their way around the designated course.
Back on dry land, a dedicated group of raffle ticket sellers ensured fund raising efforts were kicked off in style. Both regular and new sponsors kindly donated a range of exciting gifts to raffle on the night with plenty of chances to win for all..
The Geelong Community Affairs committee is a small group of Ford employees that are very passionate about what they do and the impact Ford Motor Company has in the community. The group seeks to raise funds via a number of events throughout the year with the regatta being one of the major fundraising activities.
All of the proceeds collected are used to stage the ‘Kids Day Out’, which is an annual event that invites special needs children and their carers from a number of special education schools within the Geelong region. The children get to visit Bellarine Adventure Park at Wallington. Last year’s event saw approximately 400 kids and their carers participate.
