Ford Escort Concept Takes Center Stage at Auto Shanghai 2013; Generates Significant Attention Among Chinese Customers

SHANGHAI, China — Ford has further demonstrated its strong commitment to the Chinese market with the unveiling of the Ford Escort Concept at Auto Shanghai 2013.

Taking center stage, the Ford Escort Concept, together with the all-new Mondeo and all-new Fiesta ST, perfectly presents to visitors a new generation of Ford vehicles that the company is introducing to China. Outlined by Ford’s new global design language that many believe immediately sets a Ford car apart from others, the stunning Ford Escort Concept compact car has been specifically designed for customers in the world's largest auto market.

Though falling into the same C-segment as the Ford Focus, the Ford Escort Concept is a new type of compact car targeting a very different customer, as described by Jim Farley, executive vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln, Ford Motor Company as "a new class of customers that value exceptional roominess, uncompromised functionality and sophisticated design."
When interviewed about first impressions of the Ford Escort Concept, many visitors said it looked like a family-friendly sedan with a stylish exterior.

"I like to see changes in Ford’s cars because ultimately that’s why we come to the auto show. People are expecting new elements. I also want to see more about the interior because cabin space and comfort are also importance when people shop for a car," said Robin Xia, who came to the Ford stand with his wife. The couple was shopping for their first car. "We don't have a big budget, but we do hope there are more midsize cars out there for selection.

"When it comes to decision making, many people listen to their families. I pay more attention to engine technology because I don't want to pay a lot for petrol. My wife is more interested in high-tech features like SYNC. So if this car has these technologies, that would be good,” said Jie Wei.

With a stronger than ever presence at a China Auto Show including its full SUV line-up, the Ford stand has become a must-visit for excited car enthusiasts. The all-new Mondeo, which is making its Asia debut at the auto show, has long been on many visitors must-see list. Featuring a distinctive grille, a signature element of Ford's new global design language, the face of the all-new Mondeo has generated huge interest among visitors and some people expressed admiration of Ford for  the confidence and boldness shown on the new generation of Ford vehicles.

"It's great to see an auto maker has the confidence to express its ideas and offer something unique and distinctive. The new look of Ford cars we see today, like the new Mondeo and the Fiesta ST, bring fresh elements to the market. I really think that's a nice thing," said Yi Zhu, who came to see the all-new Mondeo.

Hands-on Experience at Ford Stand

The SYNC & Drive game allows participants to try out SYNC by using voice-commands to control functions like their phone, air-conditioning and music system while driving.

To add more fun, visitors can create their own Boostical music videos by shouting out loud a few key words, like Eco, Boost, and Power, which will then be generated into a re-mix music video.
