BEIJING, China — The Ford Edge has capped off a stunningly successful year in China by winning this year's best engineering design award among imported vehicles from Sina.com, one of the country's leading Internet portals.
Ford Edge's authentic tough American style won it many votes from a comprehensive evaluation system that included a panel of auto experts, veteran journalists and celebrities from sports, fashion and entertainment, as well as Internet users.
With the help of Ford's global product development team, Edge's new, "simple yet bold exterior, the dynamic powertrain and its smart four-wheel-drive system" have "demonstrated the exhaustive improvements of Ford's product without losing its tough, American style", according to the explanation behind its award success.
"Thank you to Sina for giving Edge the best engineering design award among imported vehicles. We are striving to build a better market for imported vehicles in China," said JD Tang, director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford China, in his acceptance speech.
As one of the best-selling vehicles in its class in the first year since its launch, and the sales champion of medium Sports Utility Vehicles in March 2011 across the North American region, Ford Edge has found a ready market in China since. The vehicle is in great demand and has become one of the most sought after SUVs by customers.
Edge owes much of its popularity to four attributes – great drivability, powerful engine, innovative technology and leading safety standards – essential elements for its positioning as a "tough vehicle from the inside out".
"Edge plays a vital role in Ford's growth in China, especially in the imported car market," Tang said. "With its strong competitiveness and a more pragmatic pricing strategy, it will lay a good foundation for future imported Ford vehicles in China."
The award ceremony, co-founded by Sina.com and the China Automobile Trading Co., Ltd, is seen as one of the most influential and authoritative imported-vehicle-related events in the country. It serves the best interests of the imported vehicle market in China and offers a platform for the government, policy research institutes, automakers and customers to establish communication.
