CHONGQING, China — In May, Changan Ford, club.sohu.com and Ya'an Bifengxia Base of China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center came together to host a competition titled “The Most Fun Job in China”, where the winner would be awarded the most fun job in China: panda caretaker. Recruitment began on May 10, and over a period of just over two months, the event received more than 5.8 million applications, attracting public-spirited people with an interest in pandas from across the globe.
The winner of the competition was China’s Wei Cunming, a graduate from Tongji University. Due to his outstanding efforts throughout the competition, which included a number of gruelling tests and online voting, Mr. Wei won the prestigious position of panda caretaker. Winning the competition not only earned him the opportunity to spend 365 days with the pandas and share their adventures, but also an abundant yearly salary and the opportunity to drive a Ford EcoSport for one year.
The induction ceremony was held in the Bifengxia Panda Base, the place where Mr. Wei would begin his new adventure with the help of a EcoSport for the duration of his employment at the panda base. The 10 runner-ups were also selected and given the opportunity to enjoy some time with the pandas at the base for several days.
