DEARBORN – Ford Motor Company Emerging Market Services employees used guaranteed attention-getters – pets and the World Cup competition – to raise $900 for the team’s charity of the month, the Dearborn Animal Shelter.
As millions of people around the world tuned into the 2014 World Cup, Ford EMS employees brought the spirit of the games to Dearborn to help raise money for the shelter. For every $1 contribution, donors were assigned two teams at random. Brian Biskelonis, Product Marketing manager, and Marshall Irby, Strategic Planning, were assigned Germany, which ultimately won the World Cup by beating Argentina and thereby disappointing Khalil Kadouh, Middle East pricer, and Mary Barrett, Fleet Ops coordinator. Biskelonis and Irby not only helped the cause, they earned bragging rights for the next four years – when the World Cup will again be played.
Money was also raised through a pet photo contest led by of Lorri Wallet, Service/Owner info specialist.
The three categories of competition and the winners were:
• Do we really look alike?!? – Dana Fox, EMS Financebr/> • Best mascot for EMS – Rhonda Yoder, Product Marketingbr/> • My pet is cuter than yours! – Kristin McCormick, ADS Solution Delivery
Wallet says pet pictures were posted on a wall and employees could vote for their choice as often as they wanted – at $1 a vote. “The photos that earned the most votes won. But even though there was only one winner chosen for each of the three categories, all the nominees should be considered winners for the viewing enjoyment they brought to the organization.”
Combined with a pizza party and the ongoing sale of beverages and snacks, Wallet says the EMS team raised $900 for the animal shelter – the most it’s contributed since 2007 when Wallet began championing the shelter as a way to honor a cousin who passed away unexpectedly and who had actively supported the shelter during her lifetime.
“The Dearborn Animal Shelter has helped thousands of animals, and assisting it was important to my cousin Gale and her husband, Dan,” says Wallet. “I am very happy that I work with people who also want to help the shelter and that we work for a company that will let us make it our charity of the month.”
