MELBOURNE, Australia — From August 19-21, Ford Motor Company went down under to host its first brand pillar event covering all four pillars of Quality, Safety, Smart and Green. Known as “Innovation for Millions”, the team hosted more than 60 media, influencers and bloggers from all markets in Asia Pacific. The goals of the four-day event were to enhance awareness and perceptions of the detailed design, engineering and testing process that ensures every Ford vehicle created in Asia Pacific is truly world-class; and to showcase a range of Ford’s safe, smart and green technologies, which allow the company to truly democratize innovation and technology.
Some of the technologies demonstrated at the event included the world’s first Rear Inflatable Seatbelt, Ford’s Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Alert and Active City Stop. Throughout the duration of the event, attendees learned both how Ford has prioritized and created these technologies and also experienced them first-hand during a series of activities.
Also on the agenda were Ford’s line-up of high-tech EcoBoost engines, multi-material lightweight vehicle components and introductions to the latest generation of Ford’s in-car connectivity system, SYNC 2. Attendees were also treated to a variety of interactive experiences in the newly upgraded Ford immersive Virtual Environment (FiVE) lab, which allows engineers and designers to collaborate in real-time with other Ford teams worldwide. The newly revamped lab is large enough for a virtual walk-around of Ford’s largest vehicles, giving designers and engineers the chance to experience cars that are still in development, much like a consumer would on the showroom floor.
Attendees were also treated to a series of demonstrations and experiences at Ford’s You Yangs Proving Ground, all of which were chosen and designed to showcase the lengths our engineers go to in order to put Ford vehicles to the ultimate test to ensure they meet the highest quality standards. Guests were then given the opportunity to experience the performance of our EcoBoost range of vehicles on the ride and handling track, and the brake circuit.
The reaction from media to the event was overwhelmingly positive, with most saying that it changed their perception of how Ford develops our vehicles for the better, along with giving them a better understanding of the importance we place on democratizing technology.
