XIAMEN, China — More than 1,000 Ford dealers and employees of Changan Ford Automobile (CAF), Ford’s joint venture in China, joined a Kuga test drive at Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center on the second day of the SUV’s local launch.
Debuting at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, the launch of the local-made Ford SUV was announced on Jan. 22, giving Chinese SUV enthusiasts an early gift ahead of next month’s Chinese New Year.
At the test drive field set up by CAF, dealers and employees got their hands on the smart technologies and the capabilities offered with the latest Ford sport utility launched in China. Apart from the regular drives, the day-long event also included a “Hump Track Show” performed by professional cross-country drivers in an effort to demonstrate the SUV’s impressive off-road capabilities.
The test drive was held as part of the CAF SUV launch ceremony, in which the all-new Kuga was launched and the pre-sale price of EcoSport was announced. Marin Burela, president of CAF, Luo Minggang, executive vice president of CAF, and other CAF executives, joined by VIP customers, guests from government, attended the ceremony.
Under the theme of “Take-off with Two Wings” (Both Kuga and EcoSport’s Chinese names contain the character ‘Wing’), the meeting set the tone for CAF’s 2013 vehicle launch plan.
As part of the company’s promise to bring 15 new vehicles to China by 2015, Kuga is one of four SUVs that Ford plans to introduce to the Chinese market. The launch created excitement among local Ford and SUV fans online.
“I have been paying heed to the news of Kuga for so long, and I finally saw its launch today,” said a web user tagged Ao Diao, on Weibo.com, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
A media test drive will follow in Xiamen this week, providing an opportunity for local auto and lifestyle journalists to experience the vehicle.
