PRETORIA, South Africa — Mark Cronje and Robin Houghton dominated this season’s South African National Rally Championship wrapping up the title at the Polokwane Rally. Claiming yet another victory in their Fiesta S2000 the pair comfortably surged ahead of their nearest rivals with one round remaining in the season.
“Our hard work earlier in the season has really paid off and it has been a case of working on every aspect of our performance to ensure the maximum chance of success,” said Cronje.
Cronje and Houghton dominated proceedings at the event, finishing 1 minute and 37 seconds ahead of their nearest rivals. The victory takes their tally up to six wins from seven events, an incredible achievement for the team.
“It’s been an amazing season. We’ve received exceptional support from the team, the sponsors and of course the fans and we were delighted to be able to reward that support by clinching the title,” he continued.
Ford Racing Manager John Nagel was also eager to congratulate the team. “What an incredible season. Mark and Robin have been near untouchable this season and we once again saw the dominance of the Ford Fiesta as it once again powered them to a championship victory thanks to the focussed effort and dedication of everyone involved.”
Ford fans can get up close to the championship winning Fiesta S2000, which is on display at the Johannesburg Motor Show. The show is taking place at the Nasrec Centre until 27 October.
“We would like to invite the public to come and visit Ford’s motorsport stand at the Johannesburg International Motor Show. Mark and the team will be attending the show to sign autographs and engage with the public about their impressive season,” added Nagel.
