DATE: Will be calculated from "Release Start Date" field.

Rayong, Thailand — Ford Motor Company today celebrated the official start of production for the all-new Ford Focus at the company’s new, USD450 million state-of-the-art Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) plant in Rayong. Ford will officially launch the all-new Focus in Thailand in August.
Peter Fleet, president, Ford ASEAN, Gary Johnson, vice president, Manufacturing, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, and Mike Torolski, vice president, Quality, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, joined FTM employees to watch the first all-new Focus roll off the assembly line.
“The all-new Ford Focus is the next of eight vehicles that we will bring to ASEAN by mid-decade, continuing the successful, product-led transformation of our business,” said Peter Fleet, president, Ford ASEAN. “The all-new Focus will expand our appeal to a whole new generation of Ford customers in Thailand and across this region.”
Developed in Europe, for sale in over 120 markets worldwide with 80 percent parts commonality, the all-new Ford Focus is the hero model created from Ford’s new global C-car platform, which will underpin at least 10 different vehicles around the world.
FTM becomes the fifth Ford facility globally to produce the all-new Focus, with the Thai-built models destined for the local market and export across the ASEAN region, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
"The start of production of the all-new Ford Focus reinforces the strategic role of Thailand as a volume production and export hub for the region," said Johnson.
“It is also representative of our ongoing commitment to realize huge efficiencies in our manufacturing operations by building One Ford vehicles at key locations around the world with class-leading quality and safety,” added Johnson.
The all-new Ford Focus is the first model to be built at the highly-flexible FTM facility, which is capable of producing up to six different models simultaneously.
All-New Ford Focus
Distinguished by its sleek and sporty design, the new Focus is packed with more affordable smart technologies and features than ever in this segment.
Leading the way is the award-winning Ford SYNC® system, an advanced software platform that gives consumers the convenience and flexibility to bring digital media players and Bluetooth®- enabled mobile phones into the all-new Focus and operate them via voice commands.
A number of other smart features in the all-new Focus are a first in the segment, with some being first in market for ASEAN. These include:
·         Active Park Assist: With the touch of a button, the all-new Focus can practically park itself – totally hands-free. This intelligent system uses sensors around the Focus to help identify a feasible spot then steer the car into the space. The driver controls the accelerator, brake and gears.
·         Active City Stop: This collision-mitigation system monitors the road ahead for stationary traffic and then brakes automatically if its sensors detect the car in front has stopped unexpectedly.
·         Blind Spot Information System (BLIS): When a vehicle enters the new Focus’ blind spot, an orange light appears in the corresponding side mirror as a caution.
Other smart features
·         Smart Keyless Entry: This feature enables the new Focus customer to lock or unlock the driver’s door without taking the key out from a bag or a pocket. Sensors around the car detect the presence of the key fob and lock or unlock the door when the driver grabs the door handle.
·         Ford Power Start: The engine can be turned on by pushing the Start button. There is no need to insert a key into the ignition. The all-new Focus will start as long as the key fob is in the cabin.
The all-new Focus features a new Duratec 2.0L Ti-VCT GDi engine that combines high-pressure gasoline direct injection (GDi) and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) for enhanced performance and fuel efficiency.
A second powertrain comes in the form of a Duratec 1.6L Ti-VCT engine. Both the 2.0L and 1.6L engines are mated with Ford’s advanced six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission, which combines the responsive performance of a traditional manual transmission with the smoothness, convenience and ease-of-use of a conventional automatic.
The all-new Focus was designed to exceed global safety standards for occupant and pedestrian protection. High-strength steels comprise 55 percent of Focus’ exceptionally strong and lightweight body shell, with ultra-high-strength and boron steels making up more than 26 percent of the skeletal structure.
Depending on the model, passive safety features include a new generation of advanced airbag restraint systems with driver and front passenger airbags, side front airbags and side curtain airbags for front- and rear-seat occupants.
The all-new Ford Focus also features a comprehensive suite of advanced active safety technologies to help the driver maintain safe control of the vehicle and avoid collision situations, such as the Electronic Stability Program, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Launch Assist and Anti-Lock Brake System which includes Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.
“The all-new Ford Focus delivers even more of what customers truly want and value – fuel efficiency, safety, quality and smart technology," continued Fleet.
“Our investment in a new global mid-size car platform is enabling us to provide consumers in ASEAN, and around the world, with an affordable range of cars that offer quality, fuel efficiency, safety and smart technology beyond their expectations.”
In addition to Ford Thailand Manufacturing, the all-new Focus is built at Ford plants in Chongqing, China; Saarlouis, Germany; St. Petersburg, Russia, and Wayne, Michigan.
