BRENTWOOD, England – The Focus ST will hit the big screen next year with a starring role in a new action film entitled The Sweeney*.
Based on a popular police drama series screened on British TV in the 1970s, the film features members of Scotland Yard’s elite Flying Squad as they give chase to London's criminals in black Focus ST hatchbacks.
Thanks to the Focus ST's explosive acceleration, the criminals will always struggle to make a clean getaway.
Last month, special early-build Focus ST models were secretly delivered to The Sweeney set, joining a number of Mondeos, Galaxys and Transits.
The 1970s TV series saw Inspectors Regan, Carter and their Flying Squad colleagues using a string of Ford Granadas, Consuls and Cortinas to make the streets of London a safer place.
Director and co-writer Nick Love, whose prior films include The Football Factory and The Firm, said: "It was important for me to collaborate with Ford on The Sweeney as their legacy with the original TV show is so strong – they're the perfect partner."
Production company Vertigo has the use of six Focus ST models during filming, which is continuing until Christmas. The film will premier next September, following the sales launch of the Focus ST in the summer.
*The Sweeney derives from Sweeney Todd, London rhyming slang for the Flying Squad.
