COLOGNE, Germany – Ford Fiesta ST outperformed VW Polo GTI, Renault Clio RS and Peugeot 208 GTI in a hot hatch showdown staged by Germany’s Auto, Motor und Sport.

It also won the categories Powertrain, Drivability, Environment (tied with VW and Peugeot), and Costs, while placing third for Body/Interior and second for Safety (tied with VW), and coming in fourth in the Ride Comfort category.
VW’s Polo GTI placed second overall with 462 points. In addition to tying the Fiesta ST and Peugeot for first place in the Environment category it also won the Body/Interior category.
With 460 points, Renault’s Clio RS came in third. It won the Safety category.
The Peugeot 208 GTI brought up the rear with 457 points. In addition to tying the Fiesta ST and VW in the Environment category, it also won the category Ride Comfort.
Auto, Motor und Sport concluded: “The ST follows steering wheel commands so willingly that it tends to oversteer a bit, which can become a wonderful part of the cornering experience in the Fiesta ST. Even those partial toward rear-wheel-drive offerings will be impressed with how close this front-wheel-drive vehicle comes to the primary principles of driving dynamics.
“In addition to providing the most unfiltered sporty driving experience of the four, the Fiesta ST is also the most affordably priced, which is why, in addition to providing the highest degree of emotional appeal, this Ford also receives the most points of the four and thus wins this test. It is simply fantastic when rationality and driving fun complement each other so nicely instead of one aspect ruling the other out.”
