TRYSIL, Norway – Qatar M-Sport World Rally Team ace Mads Ostberg is claiming a new world record after jumping his Fiesta RS World Rally Car 60.48 metres on snow.
The Norwegian made the monster jump in front of thousands of spectators at winter extreme sport festival in Trysil at the weekend.
His Fiesta RS WRC, equipped with studded tyres, reached more than 145kph in sixth gear before take-off.
“It’s a fantastic feeling - I loved it,” Ostberg told wrc.com “When I was flying I just wanted to be in the air even longer. You just want a bit more, a bit more and you don’t want to land.”
He added: “Getting enough speed was the biggest challenge. There was another smaller jump further up the slope which launched us about 30 metres and that cost us some speed on the approach.”
Ostberg is renowned for “getting air” in his Fiesta RS WRC but this leap was more than twice the 28 metres he jumped over the infamous Colin’s Crest at Rally Sweden in February.
