SPAIN - Following a series of gravel tests in the UK, M-Sport put the Ford Fiesta R5 to the test on asphalt last week as the team travelled to Spain as part of its planned development programme for the all-new rally car.
Driven by M-Sport test drivers Matthew Wilson and Elfyn Evans, the R5 specification Fiesta was put through its paces in the north of the country. Completing almost 1000 km of testing, the team assessed everything from top speeds to handling and made significant strides with the car’s asphalt performance.
This week the team travels to Southern France and the well-known Fontjoncouse road. With some of the roughest gravel roads in Europe – widely used by those preparing for the legendary Dakar challenge – the road will provide the perfect test of endurance, reliability and durability.
“We made some significant strides with the R5’s performance on asphalt last week and the car looks as though it will be just as competitive on sealed-surface roads as it is on gravel,” said Matthew Wilson. “Now we’re off to France where we’ll do some endurance testing to really assess the car’s durability.”
