 Eye on India

India Why would Alan Mulally trek across an overgrown field to get his picture taken with a tree? What does a 5,000-person town hall meeting actually look like? How can everyone in the room be named Sandeep?

Get answers to these questions and more in a special issue of @Ford that takes a close look at how Ford is transforming its business in India.

The recently revealed Ford Figo is leading this transformation, with statistics showing that India is projected to be the third largest market for small cars by 2030, after the U.S. and China. With Figo on dealer floors next year, Ford will be a strong competitor in this important small car segment, which currently accounts for more than 70 percent of India’s total new car sales.

The cool new Figo will be the first product of a USD 500-million investment in India announced in January 2008, which is doubling capacity at Ford's plant near Chennai to 200,000 units a year for volume production. The expanded facility will serve as a small-car centre of excellence for the region and will introduce major advances in high-quality automation and innovative eco-friendly production techniques in the market.

With Figo on board, and a newly transformed plant in operation, the future of Ford in India looks pretty sweet.
