CAROLINIA, Puerto Rico - Ford Export and Growth (E&G) invested U.S. $95,000 to upgrade its Puerto Rico Technical Training Center.
Ford Motor Company and the E&G Ford Customer Service Division began operating a training center on the campus of the University of Puerto Rico at Carolina in 1999, and have been in their current site since 2003.
Within the 2,250-square-foot facility, technical trainer Carlos Dominguez instructs technicians from nine Ford dealers in Puerto Rico and others who travel there from the Caribbean and Central America.
Programs at the center are geared toward technicians seeing certification in diagnostic and repair techniques used on North American vehicles. As part of the Ford Master Technician Recognition Program, dealership technicians are required to participate in continuing education programs so they stay current with changing technologies.
The recent improvements made by E&G included multiple electrical and technical upgrades to keep pace with safety and Ford Motor Company standards. E&G also installed new air drops and upgraded the air-conditioning. Lighting and acoustics were improved in order to provide a welcoming space conducive to learning, and the facility now has paint and signage consistent with the colors of a Ford Training Center.
The center is located within the university’s Automotive Technology Department and shares its tools and space with students studying automotive service.
