DEARBORN -A team effort and continued increased demand for Ford vehicles led Ford Export and Growth (E&G) to achieve a new May sales record.
Total sales reached 12,513, surpassing last May’s sales by more than 300 vehicles and allowing E&G to record its 18th consecutive month of record sales. The top three selling vehicles overall were the Ford Expedition, Focus and Ranger.
Among the bright spots in May:
• Focus remained the best-selling vehicle in Israel, the fifth consecutive month it’s held the top spot.
• The Caribbean and Central America region enjoyed its best truck month ever.
• Saudi Arabia set records for monthly sales of the Expedition and Fusion.
• Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) had record sales in May, the second month in a row it’s set a sales record.
SSA is focused on extending that record to a third month. Ezio Tuniz, SSA regional sales and marketing manager, says one way they hope to accomplish that is through multiple ride-and drive-events. “The key is getting vehicles on the road. We want as many customers as possible to experience Ford models.” Within SSA, Angola in particular is generating excitement, with sales up 47 percent year-to-date.
Coming off of two record months, Fleet sales remained solid, up 27 percent versus a year ago. Doug Walczak, Fleet sales manager, said the new Ford Ranger in particular has been getting positive comments from people at various shows and in markets where it’s recently launched.
Multiple events are on tap for June throughout Export & Growth, including ride and drives and grand openings, as dealers strive to continue improving sales and building their customer base in a competitive environment.
Export and Growth provides sales, marketing, service, logistics, planning and financial support to dealers and distributors in four regions – Ford Middle East, Caribbean and Central America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia-Pacific.
