CRIOVA / DUNTON / MERKENICH - Employees in Craiova, Dunton and Merkenich recently celebrated the 1.0-litre EcoBoost’s success in being named International Engine of the Year.
In each location, employees had the opportunity to taste the engine’s success with special cakes made available; in Dunton, the cake was a life-size edible version of the engine!
Ford’s innovative small engine picked up a string of trophies at the International Engine of the Year Awards in Stuttgart earlier this month, and in addition to the premier award was also named “Best New Engine” and “Best Engine Under 1.0-litre.”
In a video message, Ford Motor Company chief, Alan Mulally, described the award as a truly fantastic achievement and congratulated the team behind the new small engine.
“This 1.0-litre engine is a game-changer! And delivers an unrivalled blend of power and economy, and it is incredibly refined,” he said. “This really is proof of the hard development work done by all of you at Dunton, Dagenham, Merkenich and Aachen. And the production work in Niehl and in Craiova. Thank you for all of your hard work! With this engine, you really are helping Ford to Go Further.”
The annual awards are presented by Engine Technology International magazine and based on votes cast by 76 journalists from 35 countries around the world.
