DEARBORN - Ford Motor Company’s Employee Parts Purchasing Program (EPPP) has been servicing employees with Ford OEM parts at a reasonable price for more than 12 years. The only difference today is that the purchasing process is now easier, more efficient and user-friendly.
Ford hourly and salaried employees, as well as retirees, are eligible to make purchases online directly from dealers, many of whom provide discounted prices. On top of the final dealer price, EPPP provides an exclusive 15 percent discount when ordering and purchasing parts at FordParts.com. With an extensive selection of more than 283,000 Motorcraft® and Genuine parts, orders can be placed online at any time.
In the past, interested parties were required to call a toll free number where their order was placed over the phone. However, it became apparent that this process was no longer the most effective way to buy or sell parts.
“In 2000, one of the side benefits for hourly, salaried and retired do-it-yourselfers who normally went out and bought parts was an ability to call a 1-800 number, which was staffed by a supplier,” said John Duffy, manager, Parts Process. “Employees who were eligible could, with assistance, order a part over the phone and have it shipped to them directly.”
While this process may have been a luxury way back when, it became clear that there was a more effective way to take advantage of the offer provided. With the launch in 2009 of FordParts.com a new window of opportunity for the program opened and shortly afterward, it was decided that the 1-800 number would be replaced by the website where customers were given the ability to take their time and shop around for the parts they wanted.
The new employee “Home Page” on FordParts.com, presents employees with a wider variety of parts they can order from dealers directly, including the luxury of ordering from dealerships further away from, or closer to, their own area.
“We can even match them up with another dealership if their favorite dealership doesn’t have the part they’re looking for,” said Duffy. “This new platform provides the employee with a visual type of ordering platform that provides them with a network of 800 dealerships to choose from, allowing them to browse at length for their car needs and much more.”
Additional benefits of registering at FordParts.com are faster checkout, the luxury of searching for parts by VIN or year, make and model or by keyword, an ability to view parts illustrations and diagrams and receive reduced FedEx shipping rates if you prefer to send shippable parts to your home.
The migration of Ford’s employee “parts purchase” benefits program to a platform that provides greater flexibility and ease of usability for the end user strongly increases the probability that employees will utilize this site to order parts. Not to mention, they have a network of dealerships to shop within, making the overall experience an extremely satisfying one.
“FordParts.com mimics the functionality that has always been there for 10 years, but now provides a platform that is state-of-the-art with more flexibility and more unique part numbers that are available to order,” said Duffy. “We’ve just made the program a lot easier.”
