DEARBORN – Record sales throughout Ford Export and Growth (E&G) in 2012 made it a banner year for the organization.
Monthly sales reached 16,778 in December, the first time they’ve exceeded the 16,000 mark. The previous monthly record – 15,041 – was set in September. The fourth quarter was E&G’s best ever and helped it reach an annual sales mark of 166,129, shattering the previous record (146,524), which was only a year old.
Director Hal Feder noted that records were posted throughout 2012. “Five out of 12 months last year set all-time records, plus we had two all-time quarterly records. Overall, it was a fantastic year.”
In the month of December, Ford Middle East (8,368) and Asia Pacific (1,661) set new all-time monthly sales records, while Sub-Saharan Africa (1,208) had its best December ever, and the Caribbean and Central America (2,379) enjoyed its best month of the year.
The Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Fleet and Military, along with Israel and South Korea, had their best sales years ever, with the Middle East recording close to 76,000 vehicles sold and Israel topping the 21,000 mark. Fleet and Military and Sub-Saharan Africa saw sales top 13,000, while South Korea sales approached the 5,000 mark and sales were up 23 percent.
Throughout E&G, the Ford Ranger and Focus were the two best-selling vehicles in December as well as the entire year. The Taurus and Expedition also enter 2013 as buyer favorites, after experiencing particularly strong Decembers.
And as great as 2012 was, Feder says it’s time to close the books on it. “We had a tremendous effort from everyone, and exceeding 16,000 vehicle sales in a month shows we can do it, so we’ve reached a turning point. The sales counts are back to zero, and we have to get off to a strong start in 2013.”
E&G provides sales, marketing, service, logistics, planning and financial support to dealers and distributors in four regions – Ford Middle East, Caribbean and Central America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia-Pacific.
