A Message from Jim Tetreault: 2013 U.S. Hourly Employee Pulse Survey
It’s like checking the heartbeat of our company. In a few weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to take Ford’s Pulse survey, and share what’s on your mind.
What’s in it for you? The Pulse Survey helps the company learn about and understand issues and concerns that employees may have. It’s your direct line to upper management. It also acts as a basis for developing new plans to improve how employees work together as a skilled and motivated team, which is the foundation of One Ford.
The Pulse also gives each of us the opportunity to voice our opinions about relationships, the work environment, safety, quality and communications.
The survey consists of 26 multiple-choice questions and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. The survey will be open from May 28 – June 21.
Only 7 percent of the U.S. hourly employees took the survey in 2012. Efforts to increase that percentage are a key focus for 2013. You are encouraged to participate to ensure your voice is heard.
Overall, some of the most positive feedback last year related to quality, safety, and supervision. The greatest opportunities were identified in the areas of communications at the Plant level and focusing on problem resolution.
The Employee Satisfaction Index (ESI) for total operations was 36 percent favorable. The ESI represents the results of eight core questions within the survey and allows Ford to compare itself amongst other large corporations like Boeing, Best Buy, Johnson & Johnson and Microsoft. Just as important, this survey allows us to look internal to Ford across all Regions across the globe. Global ESI in 2012 was 60 percent favorable, indicating a fairly large gap with the other regions.
Our focus in 2013 is on the implementation of the Ford Production System because the systems and standards within FPS exist to evolve the culture within the plants and create an empowered, aligned, and capable organization.
Your feedback will provide a baseline for continuous improvement and is much appreciated!
REMINDER: Be a part of the Pulse. Take the survey anytime between May 28 and June 21.
Remember that your voice is important!!!

DTP Team Members Give Back to Community
To participate in the Ford Volunteer Corps Accelerated Action Day, DTP team members swapped their DTP roles and donned hair nets and gloves to volunteer at Forgotten Harvest, America’s largest food rescue organization in Oak Park. During their day of giving back, the DTP volunteer team packed 6,604 pounds of food.
Thank you to the following team members who gave back to the community: Ronald Muir, Al Coleman, Dan Klebe, Chris Loeher, Jamar Wilson, Richard Derscha, Jeff DePompolo, Denise Webster, Melissa Rambow, Matthew Bright, Trinette Jordan
DTP Member Donates Hair to Local Charity
Known as the “guy with the ponytail,” Chris Loeher, Central Maintenance facilities supervisor, recently donated 12 inches of his hair to the Children with Hair Loss organization.
“I decided to donate to Children with Hair Loss because they are a local organization and they don’t charge for their wigs.”
Children with Hair Loss is located in South Rockwood, Michigan (close to Flat Rock). They produce hair replacements for children up to age 21 at no cost to them or their family.
Chris has donated four different times since 2000. This was his first time donating to Children with Hair Loss, the other three times he donated to Locks of Love out of Florida.
Every time Chris donated, it was 12 inches.
“I like to give back and I have a soft side for kids,” Chris said.
DTP Wins Henry Ford Technology Award!
We would like to congratulate Christian Dragos, Richard Shaw, Brandon Soave, Bhaskara Tadikamalla (all from the vehicles operations department at DTP) and William Johnston (from the product development department at DTP) for their recent Henry Ford Technology Award win. The team won for the Nitrogen Pressure Decay project in 2012. They developed a process and procedure to improve A/C system leak detection 100 times better than the industry standard. They used a pressure or vacuum decay as the most effective production feasible method for determining a leak in the refrigeration loop. We would also like to thank all of the members of the DTP final skilled trades team that also helped with this award.
The Henry Ford Technology Award Program was established in 1981 as part of the Company's effort to provide greater management attention to, and recognition of, exceptional technical contributions by employees.
