Editor’s Note: Throughout the week and in observance of Veterans Day, @Ford Online will spotlight stories of those who have served their country and their connection to Ford Motor Company.
DEARBORN - Before Veteran’s Day 2010, Dearborn Truck Plant’s (DTP) employee Diversity Council wanted to distinguish their co-workers who had served in the armed forces.
The council decided to create veteran walls that would be located in the entrance of DTP’s Body, Paint and Final buildings.
Supervisors canvassed employees in their area to find out who had or is still serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard.
Those that had served were given the opportunity to fill out a form that asked for their name, years involved in the service, branch and current department at DTP.
The Diversity Council collected that information and posted it on the walls, like the one shown with this article, to recognize all employees who had militarily served their country within that building.
The council continues to add names as employees report their service or are deployed.
In total, there are more than 240 employee names included on the Veteran Walls of DTP.
