NANJING, China — The Professional Women’s Network (PWN) committee at Ford China REC was established in 2006 with the overarching goal of empowering, inspiring and supporting Ford REC female employees. PWN has made, and continues to make, incredible strides to help the women in the company improve in their careers, family and own individual lives. And their efforts have not gone unnoticed; the REC PWN just won the Ford Diversity and Inclusion Award for Leveraging a Diverse Workforce.
Under the guidance and leadership of committee co-chairs Yolanda Wang, leader, D568C Body Exterior Integration, Ford China REC, and Jessie Chen, manager, APA Purchasing on EESE, Ford China REC, PWN has successfully organized a colorful assortment of activities and events for their fellow Ford REC female employees over the years.
“We try to impact all the Ford women employees directly in their career, lives and family life, and provide them with opportunities to learn from other successful female leaders and support one another in order to help them all become stronger, happier and healthier women,” said Wang and Chen. “We definitely work hard to live up to our committee’s mission: ‘We Go Further to Attract, Develop and Retain Women in Ford China REC.’”
To support their mission, the committee is divided into four clubs, each with its own focus and purpose: Communications, Career, Family and Life. Each month, the clubs take turns to organize an event/activity for their employees.
For instance, the Career Club usually arranges career-related guidance workshops led by senior female leaders where they share their experiences in the workforce. The Family Club focuses on helping females in their family lives, from parenting to spouse relationships, and also holds fun family events, such as the annual Ford REC Kids’ Day in June where all Ford REC families can enjoy a day of family-fun activities, food and performances. The Life club concentrates on women as individuals, from providing new mothers with a cozy lounge where they can relax during the day to offering fun cooking classes and health seminars.
“Besides big dates like International Women’s Day, Kids’ Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we try not to overwhelm our female employees with so many events throughout the year,” said Wang. “The events and activities we choose to put on are carefully chosen and curated to truly benefit the lives —professional or personal— of our REC female employees; we want to have a continuous influence on their lives.”
