COLOGNE, Germany - Ford plans to introduce a number of short-time working days at its vehicle assembly plant in Cologne-Niehl. The days are scheduled between May and October, including up to eight days before the summer break in July.
Depending on the situation in the European auto industry, Ford may also take up to eight further short-time working days after the summer break in September and October. Ford expects production volume in Cologne this year to decline by 6.3 per cent as a result of the overall industry decrease in Europe, where the market is expected to be down from 15.3 to around 14 million, or about 8.5%.
Following Works Council agreement, Ford is now filing an application for short-time work with the local authorities. Taking non-production days in Cologne is the latest action by FoE as it continues to match capacity with demand in its European manufacturing plants, and follows similar actions already taken in some of its other production facilities in Europe.
