CHENGDU, China - Despite wet weather conditions, the Changan Ford Racing Team overcame the odds to take top honours in race three of the 2010 China Tour Car Championship (CTCC) held at Chengdu International Circuit on June 26-27.
From pole position, 17-year old Martin Cao, driving a Ford Focus, dominated the race to record a second win for the team and keep them top of the CTCC rankings with 35 points. Team mate Andy Yan also performed well in finishing fourth.
In winning the race, Cao said he had to call on all his skills to fend off a strong challenge from Michael Ho.
"This was the second time in a row that I had secured pole position and I was delighted to lead from the front and win the race. I enjoyed great support from the Changan Ford Racing Team and our goal is to continue our winning streak in the races ahead," said Cao.
Other drivers with the team experienced mixed fortunes. Rainey He was involved in an early accident while Tengyi Jiang did not finish the race due to problems with the windscreen of his car.
As Chengdu is close to Chongqing, the team's victory was even sweeter because more than 100 "home fans" from Changan Ford were at the track to support the team with banners and posters.
Ford enjoyed further publicity with 16 sporty Ford Focus vehicles, supplied by nine dealers in Sichuan province, involved in a race parade event on Sunday morning.
The next race in the series will be held on July 31 - August. Please visit http://www.fordracing.cn/index.html for more information.
