CHONGQING, China — At Changan Ford, International Women’s Day was an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the contribution and achievements of women. Changan Ford, Ford’s joint venture company in China, made sure that its female employees were not left out on this special day.
Greeted by hundreds of colorful balloons wrapped on a gate greeted them as they arrived at work. After a half day of busy work, the union organized an event in the afternoon to showcase women employees’ beautiful handicrafts, to play some fun games together and to award those who work so hard in the plant as well in the office.
Near the entrance, a long table was set up to showcase women’s handicrafts, from bags to paper flowers, from small toys to jewelry. Their hands not only create wonderful handicrafts at home but also deliver great Ford products and service.
“At Changan Ford, we really value and care about our employees’ welfare and happiness. For International Women’s Day, we wanted to make sure we celebrated the day with our female employees recognizing the significant contribution they are making to Changan Ford,” said Marin Burela, president, Changan Ford Automobile, “I want to thank all our women employees for their commitment and dedication, which has helped lay a solid foundation for Changan Ford’s continued strong growth and development. Today we will present awards to 33 female employees for their outstanding performance in 2012 and in 2013 we are confident more female employees will receive this prestigious award.”
“Today on behalf of the union, I would like to express my gratitude to all of our women employees, you know we could not have made such conspicuous achievements without your dedication and contribution,” said Junhua Yang, chairwoman of the union.
While more than 400 women employees participated in different sports and games such as table tennis and shuttlecock kicking, male employees became the working staff to serve the ladies and let them have fun for two hours.
Towards the end, 33 women employees were given a 2012 Changan Ford Outstanding Woman Employee award, while 10 ladies won a small present in the lucky draw section.
“We played lots of interesting games and I’m so lucky to have won a little gift after the game. Changan Ford is like a big family, this is my second year in the company and I’m so proud to be part of the family,” said Olivia Wei, communications specialist, Changan Ford.
This year is the third consecutive year that Changan Ford celebrated the day with women employees, in 2011 and 2012, the union has organized a flower-arranging competition and fun sports games.
