NANJING, China — The team at Changan Ford Mazda Engine Co., Ltd (CFME) has celebrated an historic moment, with its one millionth engine rolling off the line, which will power both the world’s and China's best-selling compact car – the Ford Focus.

CFME executives joined more than 100 employees to witness the significant milestone on February 28.

“Thank you for all the effort and hard work of every employee. I’m so excited to be a witness with everyone here to celebrate CFME’s one millionth engine milestone,” said Miyanaka Hiroshi, president, CFME. “CFME has made a 5-year business plan. I believe, in 2015, we will see the two millionth engine off the line.”

CFME engines including BZ, I4, Sigma are used in the Ford Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo and S-Max – and will soon be introduced in the all-new EcoSport. Just over a year ago, the Sigma engine was launched in China and soon received a capacity increase.

“In 2013, we expect to produce and sell over 250,000 Sigma engines, and the Sky 2.0 engine will be launched in June,” said Wu Yingshi, executive vice president, CFME. “The total production volume will be over 360,000 units. Today, we produced the one millionth engine; in 2015, 2017, and 2018 we will produce the two millionth, three millionth and four millionth engines, respectively. It is not a dream but a goal we can achieve.”

“Congratulations to all of us – let us recognize all the effort and hard work that we have accomplished; and let us celebrate this significant milestone in the young history of CFME,” said Lou Ferraresi, vice president, CFME.

Founded in 2005 and located in Nanjing, CFME is a three-party joint-venture between Chongqing Changan Automobile (50 percent), Ford Motor Company (25 percent) and Mazda Motor Corporation (25 percent). The plant started production in 2007 and now the current production capacity is 430,000 units every year.

The engine plant also received a gold award in Performance of Manufacturing Facilities in the 2012 Ford President’s Health and Safety Awards.
