CHONGQING, China — Strong demand for its full vehicle lineup, led by the extraordinary performance of the Focus nameplate, pushed overall sales of Changan Ford Automobile to a record high in 2012.
The company sold 49,788 Ford-branded cars in December, surging 60 percent from the previous year. Those buoyant sales also helped drive full year sales to a record 418,500 units, up 31 percent from 2011.

With both Classic Focus and New Focus in the market to serve different needs, the Focus nameplate continues to enjoy high favorability, with sales climbing 122 percent to 36,868 units in December. The nameplate also delivered a stunning full year performance with a total of 296,360 Focus brand cars sold in 2012, achieving a year-on-year increase of 57 percent.
Launched in China in early 2012, the New Focus has been gaining popularity among Chinese consumers and quickly earned recognition from the media for its combination of superior design, leading fuel efficiency and smart technologies. Standing out as the best selling nameplate in China, Focus won around 80 awards in various categories throughout the year, including 2012 Uprising Brand in China by Xinhua News, The Best New Car Award by Sohu.com and 2012 Car of Year by Netease.
In other segments, the Ford Mondeo-Zhisheng and Fiesta also played a major role in driving the growth of Changan Ford. Ford Mondeo-Zhisheng achieved a moderate increase of 6 percent in 2012, demonstrating the charm and market vitality of the flagship model in China.
