ORDOS, China — The Changan Ford Racing Team maintained its lead in the 2012 China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) after Rainy He finished third at the Ordos International Circuit last weekend.
In contrast to the damp driving conditions during the previous round in Chengdu, the scorching weather of the Inner Mongolian city posed a serious challenge to the tyres due to the winding track. The new weight compensation rule added to the challenge, with Ford teams obliged to carry extra weight due to their strong performance in previous races.
Thanks to the New Focus’ excellent chassis design, which offers significant stability, and the power provided by the EcoBoost engine, Rainy was able to break into the top three on the fourth lap and maintained his position until the chequered flag.
The team accumulated 13 points at the weekend, remaining at the top of the team rankings board after five rounds, 99 points in total.
As the defending champion, the Changan Ford Racing team’s strength was well noted by reporters at the race.
“The new weight-adding regulation has certainly made the race much more difficult for the teams,” said Sun Yachu from Auto Suports. “Changan Ford Racing once again demonstrated the excellence of their racers as well as the outstanding handling of the new Focus.”
Sun’s view was shared by Wan Xulong from Auto Car, who had also been through a two-day test drive program with the new Focus before.
“It is the first time for me to make a comparison between the manufactured version and the race vehicle,” he said. “I can tell that the Focus is made with sports DNA. It was born a race car.”
