OAKVILLE - In every community there are people who go the extra mile because they care – everyone from the local grocer, teachers, the family dentist and the local Ford dealer.
This past year, neighborhoods all across Canada saw their local Ford dealers continuing to raise much needed funds by hosting Drive One 4 UR School and Community events. During a one-day event, community members raise up to CAD $6,000 for a local school or organization by test driving a Ford vehicle. Ford of Canada and the participating dealership pledged $20 for every person from a unique household who took a test drive at the fundraiser.
More than 330 successful events and thousands of test drives later – plus add in numerous barbeques, carwashes, sports celebrities, live bands and dance squads – and more than $ 1 million has been raised to date since the program launched in 2010.
Canadians have been excited to test drive Ford’s award-winning vehicles (and for a good cause to boot) – and the top-five vehicles test driven will come as no surprise.
Coming in at No. 1, and not expectedly really considering F-Series has been the best-selling pickup truck in Canada
for the past 46 consecutive years, is the Ford F-150. Right on its bumper in second place is the Canadian built Ford Edge – manufactured at the Oakville Assembly Complex. Rounding out the top five are Ford Escape (best-selling small utility vehicle in Canada), followed closely by the much loved Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta.
Together, Ford of Canada and Canadian Ford dealers have made it possible for schools and organizations across the country to purchase sports equipment and musical instruments, to buy food for the hungry, as well as help fund housing projects, park renovations and mentorship programs for at-risk youth.
Everyone involved is proud of the impact that this program has had in bringing together friends, families and community leaders to support students and neighbors.
Canadians are getting ready to test drive more Ford vehicles and raise even more money as future Drive One 4 UR School and Community events are just around the corner – with events being planned in neighborhoods all across the country for 2012.
