MANILA, Philippines — The All-New Ford Explorer, reinvented with a bold and sporty SUV design, was launched at a glitzy event in the heart of the Philippine capital where guests were treated to a hi-tech display before two of the vehicles were unveiled for them to explore its class-first features.
“This All-New Explorer adds class-leading fuel efficiency to a legendary portfolio of capability, performance and customer convenience,” said Randy Krieger, president of Ford Philippines. “SUV customers in general – and Explorer customers specifically – told us they want the freedom and empowerment Explorer always has stood for, with improved performance and significantly increased fuel economy.”
Ford dealer-principals, VIP guests, Ford Philippines employees and media from the auto and non-auto sector, cutting across print, online TV and radio attended the launch at the spacious and upscale Rockwell Tent, a melting point of business and leisure in Manila. The 150 VIP guests and media registered at the event via an iPad™, while a welcome note on a giant LCD screen indicated the guests' names at the entrance, all mimicking the MyFord Touch™ interface. The All-New Ford Explorer is the first Ford vehicle in the Philippines to feature MyFord Touch™.
Touch screens were also spread around the venue with the MyFord Touch™ interface to allow the guests to view various features of the All-New Explorer.
The launch came as Ford Philippines announced that its overall September retail sales rose 57 percent year-over-year to 965 units, the strongest monthly performance on record, making Ford the fastest-growing auto brand in the country.
The iconic Explorer has been reinvented to create new expectations for the SUV market, and it will be the new class leader in its segment with fuel economy improvements reaching more than 20 percent. Commanding a bold and sporty SUV design, and delivering high levels of craftsmanship and quality, the All-New Explorer is geared to match the needs and lifestyle of today's SUV customer.
The powerful and smooth 3.5-litre V6 model enables intelligent four-wheel drive with terrain management, helping the Explorer surpass the fuel economy of other vehicles in its segment. Using Ti-VCT to reduce part-throttle emissions, the engine delivers an estimated 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque.
While the Explorer 3.5-litre V6 provides best-in-class fuel economy, it still offers power to tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. The unique six-speed transmission paired with the Explorer offers performance and economy advantages with the flexibility of optimum gearing for every situation.
The All-New Explorer also targets top safety ratings with a stiff unibody structure and a class-leading suite of active and passive safety features and technologies.
And in an industry first, the MyFord Touch™ system includes 2 cluster-mounted configurable displays and an 8-inch color LCD Touchscreen, paired and powered with Ford SYNC®, replaces many of the traditional buttons and gives you control over your vehicle’s entertainment and climate through a simple button click, voice command or touch screen tap.
The All-New Explorer is built at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant and went on sale in the Philippines on October 6, 2011 at a fantastic introductory price of PHP2,350,000 (USD 54,083).
