A new library for students in Sichuan

SICHUAN, China – Ford continues to support rebuilding efforts in areas of Sichuan province that were destroyed by a massive earthquake in May 2008.

Last month, Ford's joint venture in China, Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), joined hands with the non-governmental charity organization 'Grassroots' to bring reading materials and learning resources to young students in the earthquake-affected city of Mianyang. The 950 books donated filled the empty shelves of a once-vibrant elementary school library.

This activity is part of the "Changan Ford, Let Loving Care Continue" project, which has delivered a total of 3,650 books to six elementary schools throughout the country's earthquake-hit areas. Earlier, CFMA has donated funds that could help rebuild 50 class libraries.

"As part of our ongoing social responsibility initiative, we are devoted to supporting these communities, to help improve the quality of life and education of the children in disaster areas," said Jeffrey Shen, president of CFMA.

Since the massive earthquake jolted Sichuan province, CFMA has donated RMB 1.5 million (USD 220,000) to support relief and rebuilding efforts. Total donation from Ford Motor China together with its joint ventures and employees, Ford's global workforce and Ford Fund has reached over RMB 9.3 million (USD 1.36 million).
