 All-New EcoSport Wows Crowds During Tour of Mumbai

MUMBAI, India—The all-new Ford EcoSport, fresh from its show-stopping unveiling at Delhi Auto Expo 2012, has been wowing crowds in Mumbai as excitement continues to build over the modern and innovative urban SUV.
Customers have been flocking to the Ford EcoSport, which is on display at the Infinity mall in Malad until January 25, after which it will move to the Inorbit mall in Vasi from January 27. Unveiled by Ford Motor Company President and CEO Alan Mulally during Auto Expo 2012, the global compact SUV is the second of eight new vehicles that Ford plans to bring to India by mid-decade.
"Indian customers have really embraced Ford, particularly since the launch of the hugely successful Ford Figo, and the all-new EcoSport will only further enhance our offerings in India in the near future," said Nigel Wark, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India. "As we showcase the EcoSport in Mumbai, we are confident that consumers will be excited to witness and appreciate the aspirational look and feel of this compact SUV.  EcoSport will be Ford’s second of the eight new vehicles to be launched by mid-decade in India.” 
Ford dealers in Mumbai were given another preview of the vehicle, as were media and non-automotive bloggers, to help expand awareness of the latest One Ford global product.
"This is a fantastic car and I think every household would like to have this as a second car, even if they already own a Mercedes. It is very youthful looking and solid and will be attractive to the young crowd," said Lalit Kumar, from AVK Ford.
Another Ford dealer, Puneet Kumar, said the EcoSport looks "absolutely gorgeous. It is what every urban customer would want - a personal SUV with the right size and right ground clearance for roaming around in the city."
Visitors to the display were enthusiastic about the EcoSport, which was designed to combine best-in-class design, technology, quality and safety aimed at attracting a new generation of consumers in different global markets.
The EcoSport will continue the momentum in Ford's business transformation, which was kick-started by the Ford Figo and enhanced by the new Ford Fiesta sedan.
“It was quite interesting to see how the all-new EcoSport has been molded for Indian roads. For instance, it’s got high ground clearance and seems large enough to fit a family. And I absolutely loved the design! It's a beautiful car," wrote blogger Rohit Sane of Tech Freak Stuff.
Raj of Upcoming Technology especially enjoyed talking to Nigel Wark. “I was fascinated with Ford’s story in India as Nigel narrated. I got great insights into India being a unique market, with demand for almost everything here, and was impressed with Ford’s efforts to capture each segment.”
The EcoSport will also see Ford's global EcoBoost powertrain technology coming to India for the first time in the form of its newest and smallest-ever EcoBoost engine, which is also on display in Mumbai. With only three cylinders and 1.0 litre of displacement, the latest EcoBoost engine will provide fuel-efficient power for the EcoSport.
Despite its small capacity and proportions, the engine delivers power and performance that will rival a traditional 1.6-litre petrol engine while emitting less than 140g/km CO2.
Downsized EcoBoost engines feature turbocharging, direct injection and other technologies and replace larger engines with no loss of performance and with lower fuel consumption. Ultimately, this all-new engine will be made available in Ford models in China, Europe, North America and other regions.
The EcoSport will be produced at ultra-modern, flexible assembly plants in Brazil and also at the integrated Chennai manufacturing facility which has been transformed with an annual production capacity of 200,000 units and is now positioned as a Ford regional centre of excellence for compact-car engineering and production. Ford EcoSport models will be also produced at the Chennai plant for export to international markets, and also at other markets to be announced at a later time.

The all-new EcoSport is already attracting widespread attention in Mumbai.
