BERLIN - Alan Mulally, president and CEO of Ford Motor Company, has been presented with a special achievement award by the German weekly Bild am Sonntag and the European Auto Bild group. He was handed the honorary “Golden Steering Wheel” award on November 9 during the “Golden Steering Wheel 2011” award ceremony in Berlin.
The award recognises Mulally’s efforts and his extraordinary leadership qualities which have contributed significantly to Ford’s worldwide success.
The jury said: “Alan Mulally managed to save the automotive icon Ford, despite coming from a different industry sector and without taking government aid. In America he is celebrated as a pop star of the economy. We would also like to recognise his great achievements by awarding him the honorary Golden Steering Wheel.”
Accepting the award, Mulally said: “Thank you very much for this wonderful award. It makes me very proud and I would like to thank all my teams and colleagues throughout the world. Many of Ford’s technological innovations have been developed at our German sites and have captured automobile markets around the globe. Therefore, this Golden Steering Wheel is first and foremost a recognition of Ford’s success, which wouldn’t have been possible without our skilled and motivated workforce.”
The coveted “Golden Steering Wheel” award, now in its 36th edition, recognises outstanding automotive achievement. The honorary award for special achievements in the automotive field was introduced in 1983 with Henry Ford II as the first recipient.
