MANILA, Philippines – On April 24, Ford Philippines hosted a Green Refuel Day drive with members of the media driving the all-new Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost uphill to Tagaytay, south of Manila. The purpose of this event was to highlight Ford’s green pillar, offering participants firsthand experience of the Fiesta’s fuel efficiency and the capability of its award-winning 1.0L Ecoboost engine.
A total of nine reporters from automobile, tech and broadcast sections took part in the drive. Media attendees were also surprised to find a personalized USB drive in their vehicle that contained recorded tips on fuel efficiency and a song playlist fit for the road trip. They were also able to control the USB drive using SYNC. The drive to Tagaytay was approximately 67 kilometers and the final destination was Gourmet Farms, Cavite.
Once at Gourmet Farms, participants were given a brief demonstration by a chef on the best way to prepare a salad before being served lunch. Afterward, Joseph Ayllon, AVP of Communication, Ford Philippines, gave a short presentation about Ford’s green pillar and the various green initiatives being undertaken by the Company globally, which also included a more in-depth presentation on Ford’s EcoBoost technology.
The team who achieved the best mileage for the trip was made up of Angel Rivero, Philippine Star, and Isa Suarez, manager, Communication, Ford Philippines. Their best mileage was 39.300 km/L.
Below are some comments the media attendees made about the drive:
“We wanted to know how efficient and economical the tiny but turbocharged EcoBoost three-cylinder engine is, and we can say that we are quite impressed with its performance,” said Katrina Canlas, Hardwarezone.com.ph. “I am really amazed how economical the car is, that even the most efficient car only used 1.73 liters of gas during the 67 kilometer trip. Though it is only a 1.0L engine, I am amazed that it had enough power to drive up the steep road to Tagaytay and it was one comfortable drive.”
“It was a nice drive. Extremely organized and everything seemed to have been planned out, including toll and snacks. I particularly loved the USB sound track and the location was also a good choice,” said Lacar Perlas, Asian Parent Magazine.
“It was a quick drive out of town and everything was very organized. The amount of time we spent behind the wheel was just enough to make us curious about the Ford Fiesta EcoBoost, enough for us to want a longer test drive. Definitely borrowing it for a review soon,” said Steph Asi, TopGear Philippines.
“The all-new Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost really has what it takes to compete in the local automotive scene. Even if it has a small engine and a displacement like motorcycles, the Fiesta could outrun some sedans in the market. Ford made a good move in bringing the car here in the Philippines,” said Fort Manahan, Manila Times.
