DEARBORN - The 1-2 finish by Toomas Heikkinen and Tanner Foust at X Games LA earned Ford a third consecutive Manufacturers’ Championship in Global Rallycross, making history by clinching with three rounds left in the season.
“We announced our expanded commitment to the Fiesta GRC program back in February and just seven months later have another championship to celebrate,” said Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing. “It's thrilling to have two strong teams in OlsbergsMSE and Hoonigan Racing Division, who can take our commitment and truly dominate the series like they have this year.”
Ford Fiesta ST drivers claimed nine out of the 12 X Games medals that were up for grabs, including three of a possible four gold medals, over the course of four global events. They have also dominated two additional series races with podium sweeps.
Between six drivers - Toomas Heikkinen, Tanner Foust, Ken Block, Brian Deegan, Scott Speed and Patrik Sandell - Ford has tallied five victories and 15 podium appearances. Heikkinen became the first driver to win back-to-back X Games gold medals and the only driver to make a podium appearance at all six rounds.
“The Ford Fiesta ST is ideal for rallycross racing,” said Allison. “The rallycross Fiesta ST race cars reinforce that small, exciting, fun-to-drive attribute of Fiesta ST.”
