– Ford Motor Company and Cannes in a Van – the four-wheeled champion of independent filmmaking – have launched the 2013 Van d’Or Independent Film Awards
and are inviting entries from across Europe.
The awards offers independent filmmakers the opportunity for their work to be judged across multiple categories by a prestigious panel of experts from the film world – including Oscar-nominated producer Samantha Waite and award-winning “Bend it Like Beckham” director Gurinder Chadha. The deadline to submit an entry
is Aug. 9, 2013.
The winning films will be announced at a ceremony in London in September and then screened at locations throughout Europe this year and next year in a specially converted Ford Transit Custom equipped with a 55-inch plasma screen in the load area on the “Cannes in a Van: Film in Transit” tour.
“We are working with Ford to provide a unique showcase of the best independent talent on a one-of-its-kind stage – a Ford Transit Custom,” said Andy Greenhouse, co-founder of Cannes in a Van. “The 2013 Van d’Or Independent Film Awards attracts a very high level of filmmaking and Cannes in a Van is the platform that enables us to screen the winners to a highly appreciative audience right across Europe.”
The overall winner will receive the award for Best Film. Also this year, Cannes in a Van will introduce a new “Youth Jury”– in association with U.K. charity FILMCLUB – that will judge the award for Best Film for Under-18s.
This year’s ceremony also will announce details of a special “Film in Transit” award for full-time students. The unique competition will offer budding filmmakers the chance to showcase their creativity and win a grand prize, provided by Ford.
Among previous Van d’Or Independent Film Awards winners is Steve Reeves who won Best Director in 2012
for short film “Taking Life.” Reeves, who also directed an Agent Provocateur commercial starring Kylie Minogue, is now working on “Keeping Rosy” starring Maxine Peake (“Shameless”, “Criminal Justice”) and Blake Harrison (“The Inbetweeners Movie”, “Way To Go”) for release next year.
Winner of International Van of the Year 2013 and the first vehicle in its segment to achieve a maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating, the all-new Ford Transit Custom offers class-leading load-carrying ability, best-in-class fuel economy, and advanced Ford vehicle technologies including SYNC with Emergency Assistance, Rear View Camera and Lane Keeping Alert.
