MEXICO, D.F. - During the first International Auto Show in Guadalajara, SIAG 2011, the 2012 Ford Focus was voted "Car of the Year" by a jury of 33 top specialized Mexican automotive journalists. This award honors the high quality standards and best in class innovation in our vehicles. SIAG is Mexico's most prestigious auto show where approximately 250 mil people gather to see the latest automotive innovations.
The initial list of contenders was comprised of 36 vehicles which arrived to the Mexican market between the months of January and June of 2011. Among the 4 finalists were: Nissan March, Suzuki Swift, Ford Focus and Audi A7. Each of the judges was given 15 votes, which they had to divide among three models of their choice. The rules specified that no judge could give more than 10 points to a single vehicle nor give less than one point. The winner was selected based on the judges’ experience and what they considered the best car of 2011.
The 2012 Ford Focus earned this recognition based on the following: the dynamic design, the redesigned chassis and suspension, its technology and safety features.
"Ford is very proud to have been awarded with this recognition in Mexico," stated Gabriel Lopez, President and CEO of Ford of Mexico. "Winning “Car of the Year” confirms our commitment to providing vehicles with the best quality, high technology and driving experience to our customers".
