TAIPEI, Taiwan – The All-New Ford Mondeo went on sale in Taiwan on June 1. Equipped with the award-winning EcoBoost engine and PowerShift transmission, the new model delivers 240 horsepower, making it the most powerful domestic-manufactured car in its segment in Taiwan.
Significant powertrain improvements result in a power increase of 18.2 percent. Peak torque has also increased to 34.7 kg-m, an increase of 13.4 percent. The new 2011 Mondeo has a renovated exterior and interior, including new grilles, bumpers and central console. The Ghia+ model also includes three additional safety features: Blind Spot Information System, Tire Pressure Monitoring System and Daytime Running Light, which are new introductions to this segment amongst locally manufactured brands.
“Enhancements to the new 2011 Mondeo's powertrain, exterior, interior and safety have further reinforced our commitment to Ford's four key product pillars – Quality, Green, Safe and Smart,” said Albert Li, president of Ford Lio Ho (FLH) at the launch press conference. “It enables customers in Taiwan to enjoy the exclusive driving power of this sedan at an appealing price, which could make the new Mondeo a big hit in the market."
The All-New Mondeo has been subject to quite a bit of buzz ever since Ford Taiwan's Facebook page started giving fans a preview of the model's new features and photos. One of the posts even generated 155 'likes', creating much excitement amongst the fans.
“240 horsepower! 240 horsepower! I can’t wait to test-drive it,” commended Benjamin Wang, a Facebook fan.
Media were just as excited as fans. “Ford Mondeo has always been a perfect car, in any respect,” said auto journalist Hsing-jui Tung from U-car.com.tw. “With all these cool new features, the new 2011 Mondeo is definitely the best product in its segment among all domestic-manufactured cars."
The new Mondeo comes in six variants, with a choice of EcoBoost, i-VCT and TDCi diesel engines. The price range is from NTD 889,000 (USD 30,880) to NTD 1,199,000 (USD 41,648).
To let more customers truly feel the difference of the new model, FLH is holding a long-distance test drive from Taipei to central Taiwan this Friday.
