DEARBORN, July 2, 2009 – Strong consumer demand for Ford Motor Company's new products boosted the company's total estimated U.S. market share in June to more than 16 percent, nearly three points higher than a year ago.

Although the automaker's overall sales dropped 11 percent last month, it is believed to be the best performance among major auto manufacturers and was achieved while continuing to reduce incentives.

"Customers tell us they love our new products, and they're not holding back on their investments in higher series levels and top-shelf options," said Jim Farley, Ford group vice president, Marketing and Communications.

Farley added that the average transaction price for the new 2009 F-150 pickup is $6,000 more than the previous model and $1,800 more for the new 2010 Ford Fusion versus its predecessor.

June sales highlights include Fusion, which accounted for 18,561 units, a record for the month and up 26 percent compared to a year ago.  The company's hybrids also set a June record with sales of 3,649, a 91 percent increase.  Ford Flex (4,784) posted its best sales month ever.

In response to stronger-than-expected demand for the company's new products, Ford announced it is further increasing third-quarter production by 25,000 vehicles to 485,000, 67,000 units more than a year ago.

Coincidentally, the additional inventory will arrive in time for the U.S. government's "Cash for Clunkers" program that allows U.S. consumers to receive government-backed incentives for trading in older, less fuel-efficient vehicles.

Farley says the timing of the program, couldn't be better for Ford.

"It gives us an opportunity to showcase our new products and fuel economy leadership," he said.  "Our dealers are totally activated because they know our products give us an opportunity to win new customers."

At www.ford.com, customers can click on "Let Ford Recycle Your Ride" to find out whether their vehicle is eligible for the program as well as what new Ford vehicles qualify.  "Cash for Clunkers" is expected to launch later this month.
