DURBAN, South Africa — Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s (FMCSA) 30 member soccer team was among the star performers at the Annual Motor Soccer Tournament.
The exciting event took place at Cator Manor Stadium in Durban last month. FMCSA was led by acting coach Colen Mabena , assistant coach Godfrey Hompa, and Danny Phala, Andrew Zulu, and Ettin Kemsley as officials.
The tournament was a showdown between five teams – FMCSA, Toyota, Hope, BMW and Gud Filters. The five teams were divided into one group of two and another of three to play each other in a round robin system.
Ford started with a 2-1 defeat against Toyota, before making a comeback against Hope, winning 3-1. In the third round, Ford defeated BMW 3-1, qualifying for a spot in the final against Toyota.
The exciting final kicked off with both teams battling hard with no goals being made in the first half. However, goals were scored more freely in the second half, with Toyota winning 2-1.
FMCSA brought home a gold trophy and each of the 30 players received a medal. The team also received a miniature gold trophy for the best team award during the tournament.
